Key Skills for a Driving Instructor
Reliability
As an instructor, students are counting on you to show up on time and follow through on your commitments. Being dependable is essential for building trust and credibility with your clients.
Punctuality
Being on time for each lesson shows professionalism and respect for your students' time.
Patience
Not all students will learn at the same pace, and some may find driving stressful. Patience helps you to guide them calmly and effectively.
Good Customer Service Skills
As a driving instructor, you are running your own business or working with a driving school, so excellent customer service will help you retain students and build a reputation.
Enjoy Working with New People
Every student is different, and working with a variety of personalities requires an open and adaptable mindset.
Key criteria:
Full UK Driving License
You must have held a full UK driving license (or an approved foreign license) for at least three years and be aged 21 and over.
Clean Driving Record
You cannot have been banned from driving in the last five years and should have no more than five penalty points on your licence. This ensures that you are a safe and responsible driver yourself, a key factor when teaching others.
